Restrict Entry During COVID
Many schools are reopening with reduced occupancy policies for classrooms and common areas. It’s an ambitious endeavor, but it’s only effective if there’s a way to ensure the room does not exceed maximum capacity. An electronic access control system gives school administrators a simple, yet technologically advanced way to do this.
One option is to activate student credentials for the rooms they are permitted to be in at various times of day. Another option is to install a system that includes a people counter, so that staff can close off a room once it’s at capacity. An access control system can also restrict entry to any students or staff who are infected or quarantining.
Manage Student-Involved Incidents
Most students stayed in some type of contact with classmates and peers during distance learning, a reality that comes with advantages as well as challenges. Unfortunately, cyberbullying threats during distance learning can become real-life threats once school resumes. Meanwhile, students know where to go on campus if they intend to break rules, try to make an exit or aim to start a fight.
When problem areas of your campus are protected by access control, the doors to those areas remain locked when a student attempts to open them. And by integrating video surveillance, administrators can see which students attempted to use the door.
Both the access control log and video can be timestamped, which gives staff insight into what times of day are at highest risk for student-involved incidents. Over time, the likelihood of those incidents happening on campus can decrease.
